Re: Farewell, Kind Lover by Dovina 14-Sep-06/10:21 PM
Nice. I read this yesterday, unfortunately having spent the day shifting vegetables so the mental image of tender, brave sprouts was hilarious. Now I'm a bit more with it, I can appreciate it.
Re: 72 virgins (but the bitches ain't fun) by ALChemy 14-Sep-06/10:18 PM
Really, this poem is an explanation of the origin of the phrase 'fucking hell'.
Re: a comment on weather poem part 8: stating the obvious by nypoet22 14-Sep-06/10:08 PM
Aah, you two are so cute sometimes...

I don't see the problem with line two - the thermostat does rise of its own accord when set to, and he doesn't say 'sweats out their pores *directly because* the thermostat rises'. Thermostat goes up, temperature goes up, people get hot, people sweat. As for it being a sentence in its own right, again that's not a problem. In this context it's not a standalone sentence - starting with 'Sweats' in this case means it refers back to the previous sentence for the subject (everybody). Splitting the whole phrase into two seperate sentences removes the need for the conjuncion [and] as well as for punctuation.
Re: The Ice Soldier by MacFrantic 13-Sep-06/10:17 PM
Good grief, Mac - I looked up to see a gathering of 5 users online...4 of which are you! New record, methinks. How's Colorado?
Re: Be Not Afraid Of Dying. by Mr Pig 13-Sep-06/10:15 PM
Sweet, traditional English meets traditional Japanese. Blessed.
Re: Dear Maggie by Stephen Robins 13-Sep-06/10:11 PM
Last line's pretty funny
Re: Satyr by ecargo 13-Sep-06/10:07 PM
"there's chaste to be chased 'neath the myrtle 'til dawn" -- http://www.poemranker.com/poem-details.jsp?id=144546 suggests you haven't been doing too much to discourage this kind of behaviour, ecargo :-p

This reminds me of something, and I can't for the life of me think what...
Re: a comment on Solace by Miggy 12-Sep-06/10:08 PM
There's a hint of Harry Chapin in here, but not much. He'd have turned this into a proper story rather than a drawn-out moan. The first line has promise, Chapin-esque, but the rest loses that.
Re: Fill Out That Paper by Wakeboarder20 12-Sep-06/9:53 PM
Heh, amusing.
Re: Solace by Miggy 12-Sep-06/9:53 PM
"Just another case in the jar"? I could understand if it was the other way round. Am I missing something?
Re: a limerick from kent by nentwined 12-Sep-06/12:10 AM
Uh-oh...

Re: I Have a Brain That Glows In the Dark by colbaby 12-Sep-06/12:09 AM
I think Steve Irwin's untimely demise might have unhinged you. Fucking funny poems though :-D
Re: Flood Land, East Kentucky by zodiac 11-Sep-06/9:49 AM
This demands several reads, awesome lines and a compelling story. I suck at accents and dialects, so I'll have to assume you've got it right, but that's not a difficult assumption to justify.
Re: Wet dreams by ecargo 11-Sep-06/9:38 AM
I found 'mother bulk' incredibly difficult to reconcile with the title...could just be me, I guess. Also, 'spray of sun' was difficult - although it's a lovely phrase - because of the earlier links with night (again, could just be me, I'm tired so bear with me ;-) ). The description is super and I do like the rhymes :-)
Re: The Clock and the Storm by cleverdevice 11-Sep-06/9:23 AM
Excellent spelling! Have you gone back to Durham yet?
Re: Final Goregasm by creepshow 11-Sep-06/9:21 AM
Are you a Jack the Ripper fan?
Re: My Prayer by amanda_dcosta 10-Sep-06/1:17 PM
Sweet, but it could do with something other than 'amazing grace'. Other than that, nice :-)
Re: The Natural Course of Fear by half.italian 10-Sep-06/1:00 PM
Curse of the typos strikes - 'raspberry'. Love the last line, although as an Englishman I, of course, don't feel fear ;-)
Re: a comment on Products of Pacifisim by Nuit 9-Sep-06/10:20 PM
You don't mention religious wars, but you seem to be saying that godless pacifism is a blight on the world, which would imply that you think religious activism is a good thing. 'Plastic pacifism' = bad. Evolution and logic (from 'warped pride') = bad. So presumably the oppoosite of those, religious activism, equals good.
What do i take from '10000 years of spiritual philosophy'? Well I don't think you've read much Western philosophy. Ten thousand years? Even the semitic philosophy only goes back, what, six thousand? And I don't know if that can be classed as Western. Not in origin, anyway.
Ultimately, with your above comment, this seems to be you saying that ideology is empty and soulless because it encourages inactivity. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't need to tell me how much of a gargantuan dunce I am. I already know.
