Where the rain looks like snow
Swirling through the sullen petals
A ragged man reels and ends sitting
With a thud against the cherry trunk
Blooded by obfuscation.

He splays his fingers on the ice-wet asphalt,
Palms sliding in the flower flesh
Considers speaking, weighing every word
A sacrifice against the precision of thought.

Instead he is silent, each sweet sentence
Receding away like the long rows
Of precisely-planted trees,
The fuel of reverie.

When you're on display, when
Every thought twists and struggles
Under the anonymous weight of perusal
Any random loser can come along
And look and taste and sniff and say
"Fuck you."

a little bit "mannered" in a way that I quite like. I have, actually, no fucking idea what "mannered" means, but i've been accused of it before and it seems to refer to a quality that I see here and like. 8.

Why is every word capitalized? Is this a kind of anti-cummings curmudgeonry?
Re: AIDS in a van by -=Dark_Angel=-, P.I. 10-Mar-03/3:48 PM
I have no formal education in poetry, so could someone please illuminate me: I was under the impression the WHOLE FUCKING POINT of a limerick is to be as crass crude tasteless & politically incorrect as possible (& subsequently funny).

Jesus, have they started teaching in schools that you need to look for and evaluate the social message of FUCKING LIMERICKS? yer jest spost ta laff fer chrissakes.

concophony oughtta be a word. I vote we include it in english.

alls left is to choose a meaning. Google lists it 26 times, used variously to mean "confusion" "overwhelming array of discordant sounds" "cornucopia(!)" "pastiche" and "fusion"

I think it should just mean any short, intense burst of sharp sounds, as in "there was a flurry of arms and a concophony of flesh striking flesh and then one man stood, confident and dusty and victorious, and the other lay defeated and blooded."
