Re: This Is The Sound of My Heart Breaking by Owner of the Sky 30-Sep-02/3:31 AM
This is perhaps a bit overlnog and wordy, but the images accumulate powerfully.
Re: a comment on The Mill by vulcan 30-Sep-02/3:25 AM
I think I shall order a pair of those rings. I'm quite convinced that this will work. But there were no testimonials by the immortal on the site. Is this a bad sign? Are you Alex Chiu? Come come, don't be modest...
Re: a comment on The Mill by vulcan 30-Sep-02/3:00 AM
'softly immortal' isn't a contrast - what meaningful contrast could be made between softness and immortality? They're not opposing values, but they do make a nice sound and evoke the idea that immortality is gentle and nothing to be afraid of. Which ain't that mysterious an idea. You come from a strange angle monsieur.
Re: Witch to Wicca by Lenore 30-Sep-02/2:45 AM
This is a bit mysterious to me as the only Wiccan I ever met was a scary South African girl who tried to seduce me at a conference. (Told me I had typical Scorpio's eyes, whatever that might mean. But it was spooky 'cos I am a Scorpio.) I didn't stick around long enough to find out whether she burnt her house down or about the elements or whatever. Nevertheless, I get the metaphors here and they're very strong. And I especially like your conclusions about the nature of God i.e. he/she/it is an invention to salve human fears.
Re: The Mill by vulcan 30-Sep-02/2:35 AM
Yep, very nice. 'softly immortal' is lovely.
Re: Would I? by Limness 30-Sep-02/2:34 AM
That is the question any writer must face - stay human or write like a god? Very well put.
Re: a comment on Putney at Low Tide by Christof 30-Sep-02/1:10 AM
I know. How sad the Cottage is gone. This was written back in the good old days before Fulham residents decided they don't like the only interesting thing in their neighbourhood.
Re: Married by INTRANSIT 27-Sep-02/6:33 AM
Keep the tether - like it or not, it's part of the deal.
Re: a comment on West Sands, late afternoon in winter by Nicholas Jones 27-Sep-02/3:47 AM
Yes, bonza's something I picked up from the many Australians I've worked with. It means smashing, super, great etc. I think this could be any estuary - ever been to Whitstable? Very similar effects can be achieved.
Re: West Sands, late afternoon in winter by Nicholas Jones 27-Sep-02/3:40 AM
This is your best yet. I love the idea of barely being there, just being a space defined by the environment around you. And you end it light-heartedly. Bonza. (but a typo - 'estuary' - don't worry about it).
Re: a comment on Transfixed (#2) by Christof 27-Sep-02/3:36 AM
I think I can see what you mean, some of the imagery's similar. Orwell had quite a way with a phrase, but I wonder is her being ironic?
Re: a comment on Transfixed (#2) by Christof 27-Sep-02/3:26 AM
Thanks for that. I haven't read that - I must seek it out.
Re: Cover song by bondjedi 27-Sep-02/2:47 AM
Don't listen to him.
Re: Life's Unnoticables by apples_tim 27-Sep-02/2:45 AM
I don't understand what you mean by 'your life is for seen' - do you mean 'foreseen'?
Re: Nighttime Conversation by unknown 27-Sep-02/2:43 AM
Is it just me or is this rude and naughty?
Re: Conversation with a Clock III by morffrom 26-Sep-02/7:37 AM
Thank God. Now you can get out at talk to people. Or at least to the birds or soemthing.
Re: a comment on Conversations with a Clock II by morffrom 26-Sep-02/7:34 AM
It was my vote, so you need to have words with Ms Zzinnia. I only abstain if I don't like the poem.
Re: Disbeliever by ThoughtfulSoul 26-Sep-02/7:21 AM
I think I would lose the last couplet and the word 'fiction' and then this would stand as a perfect statement.
Re: a comment on Fraternity by Christof 26-Sep-02/7:19 AM
I like the label 'shabby chic'. I think that describes me perfectly.
Re: Conversations with a Clock II by morffrom 26-Sep-02/7:17 AM
Very good! Funny. You're worryingly preoccupied with clocks though. You want to watch that. (Geddit? Oh ha ha). I like this very much.
