I think the material in the paragraphs that follow the poem are more like pooetry. The poem simply tells us what the narrator thinks or feels. The other shows us in images and thereby engenders us to think about our own feelings. Here are some examples, pulled from above:
barely visible black dots became patches
shots of memory impose
melting down like old projector film
Pulling out the negatives
stained dusty brickwork
barbed bead of frost
clutching my ticking head

The first seven lines are OK. The last line is trash. Here is my revised and improved 2nd stanza for you.
Some say they are too soft.
Some say they're rather rugged.
Some say they're strangely clammy.
Especially after being buggered.
PS Who is Dale Winton?

I'd be bitterly disappointed if Friend did turn out to be Adriaan - if I remember rightly we got on pretty well and I had a healthy respect for his writing. But I guess I'll have to live with it if he is.
You're spot on (as usual) with your definition of poetry; I'd also add that it's not just the sound, but the way a poem feels as you read it - a really good poem fits together and flows naturally so even if you just mime it, it still works. Mathematical, like Poe said.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am confident that having both removed adds even more comfort to the ride.

Perhaps I should add, âAvoid branches / they can grin you ear to ear.â Happy cycling.

Wow, how trendy of you to be so contrversial. Homo-erotic biblical poetry may be a somewhat original topic but this is written poorly and is plain tasteless. I can only assume it is on the best list through your own efforts.

This looks just like some bullshit that someone would forward to my email (and I wouldn't be surprised if it was) as if this is news. I know all this shit already, and writing it in the form of emotional guilt-tripping garbage doesn't make it anything more than exactly that. 0.
