Re: a comment on The One I Threw Back by drnick drnick 24.247.158.152 21-Jun-07/9:50 AM
I know it makes things awkward, but that's God for you! I didn't mean it literally, I just wanted to convey the magnitude of the moment and thought this was the only way. It plays with the quasi-motif I have going: the scientist studying, breaking his objective intentions, finding God and running away. Glad you liked it.

I'm glad you caught/enjoyed that. It's more that I have no control over the feelings than that I don't care; quite frustrating. Also, no matter what happens the outcome is undesirable. I think I need some GHB more than I need good luck ;)

you are getting closer, Ranger, to the less corporeal character of whom I hinted. (and that previous sentence in itself is a hint.)

Thanks, Christof. "Our most pompous novelists" leads me to believe you reside "across the pond" from the Brits, yet you spell "metre" after the British way. I find no fault here, just interesting. I like "connexion" much better than "connection", myself, and for some reason "theatre" seems more approriate than "theater"; I guess a bit of British pomp is appropriate for some words. I rather do prefer the British spelling of most words (among them the ones that Edna so sweetly pointed out), but when they spell "truck" as "lorry" it really makes no sense. (heh)

had a bit more trouble with "empty", so i left lots of empty space around it.

exactly. haiku in the concrete style. and put that way, it reminds me of Tadao Ando, Kenzo Tange, Maki, Izozaki, and many other fascinating Japanese architects that love to use actual concrete to create their poetry, or as it has been said, "frozen music": architecture. here's a nice Ando building in concrete: http://www.andotadao.org/chlight6.htm

The villanelle is tough little nut to crack and i think this pretty damn good. I don't really like 'ev'ry' - I think the metre would make the syllabic count of the word clear, and it would be nice not to have that archaism. But it's only a small thing and it's made up for by 'wet silty clay' - you've obviously been digging in my garden. Not wanting to get pulled into the British pomposity argument above but - really, the Brits don't have the monopoly on pomposity. Our most pompous novelists are laugh riots next to Dom de Lillo or Sinclair Lewis and as for linguistic rigidity - have you seen the New Yorker? It's like Edith Wharton never died.

Do you have kids? This does sound like the conversation a parent has with himself whenever the darling child misbehaves. A typo in 'offspring' but otherwise I like this, it's a good bit of polemic.

I get easily distracted and the capitol letters starting each line is distracting. Apart from that an inner dialogue fitting of the mad...maybe?

I'm not F-Logging anything personally - but I know those who do I hate that 'rolled sweated and panted' line...keep trying it all different ways, which is something I rarely do is edit. I agree with the 'fire into the midst' does feel better. thanks all... :)

I've been inspired to get up off my arse recently, for some reason. Possibly having a new baby. And of course the best thing to do is come straight back here and have a ruck with Rockmage, but never mind. Glad you liked this and yes, it is about something a bit naughty.

Minor - the children who were shot as they ran. Coming gloom/crumbling tomb - good call. I'll work on that.

In retrospect, that sounds highly insulting. My apologies, it wasn't meant to be.

The best game you can play with telesales is to pretend that you're interested in it as a career and ask them all about their job. See how long you can string them along for before they hang up. Love the torture of geese. Glorious.
