Do you believe everyone who submits themselves to reason and logic will become, like you, an agnostic?
richa replying on Reasonably Good by Dovina 23 Mar 2005, 2:45 AM
The theory of evolution is one of a number of examples in science where serendipity played a part. However that is not to say it simply fell into Darwins lap. Darwin recognised that within species there are also familial traits. To go from this to a theory of evolution involving concepts of natural selection and natural variation is somewhat of a jump. Darwin opened up a line of enquiry which required assumptions. If Darwin had not done this, the so called truth you see in the theory of evolution would not have reached you because there would have been no theory of evolution. What you are claiming is that those who only believe that God created the universe will not believe anything else and therefore will be obscured from truth if truth is the big bang theory. This is a perfectly arguable standpoint but it does not permit you to say that an open mind is better at receiving truth than one that uses a model to understand the world. By the way only the mentally retarded do not have a model of the world. That is perfectly measurable and the finding is perfectly robust.

zodiac- thanks. I've admired your work here, so your compliment means lots. *warm feeling though cold, slipperless feet*

Good ideas. I'll try them.

Get rid of the spaces between stanzas--what is space anyway but the thing that separates us? I'm drunk, I like this, 9.3.
Dude, this is a good story. And I hardly ever call anyone dude. A suggestion: keep the format, but punctuate everything if you are going to use quotes. Make it more like a dialogue in a story, with periods and commas. It will be easier to understand. 8.7.

Third stanza is rocking me...First one, line 4 almost stopped me from going on...try to keep the contractions to a minimum. Also, the title's grammatical problem needs to be addressed. Nonetheless, I still like it. 7.5.

Make this a prose poem and it will rock, after you add a few more lines. Potential.

This poem sucks ass, I wrote it and had no edits, sorry you even read far enough to see this comment. I am ashamed. D'oh.

I was responding to richa, but happy you agree. You are new here and will have some trouble following the color shades of the sheathes around the comments. Here's an example of where they are hard to follow.

I do.

Truth is something which can be picked up by an open mind and deflected by a closed one. I would not see any truth in Evolution if my mind were closed to it. I would deflect that truth. This does not assume there is any truth in Evolution, only that I would not receive it if I saw it. I think there is a lot of speculation in Evolution (which I use only as an example) but I think there is some truth there too. We are not discussing ways of distinguishing truth, only receptivity to it. I do, as you say, attribute a magical property to truth that separates it from falsehood, but that’s not the same as saying I know how to distinguish truth from falsehood. I don’t think that to discover truth, I must first know what I am looking for. That would be saying that I know a truth – how to discover truth – before I discover truth. You can see the inconsistency in that. The important thing here is to be receptive to truth, even if comes through an unlikely source like the words of Dovina. Wouldn’t you agree?

Well...at least you're doing a fine job of proving me correct; less work for me... btw...no...not usually <<<------answer to your other post questioning whether or not i perceive my words to be "bollocks." i do, however, think to myself when i run into the likes of you, "good Christ, he thinks he's God, we better not talk." i also think that if you think it's all "unbelievable waffle," that you probably have the intellectual capacity of your average college student in america, which is the same as the average 4 year old child in ethiopia. good luck with your righteousness. peace, sean

Do you ever read what you've written and think "Good Christ I write an awful lot of bollocks"?

This looks like the output of an angsty Markov chain generator. Stop writing.

By the way richa, the same goes double for you.

You're an idiot, and you have no idea how to write. What you think of as "articulate argument" is actually "unbelievable waffle". Do shut up.

You got the lucky 7 from me for creativity in word choice; I noticed when reading the comments that you wished to convey the idea of the narrator being involved in petty conflict - well done... your message is nearly crystal clear, and would be if it was known (from the poem) that you are British, otherwise it just seems like the narrator is some average joe who has beef with scotland for, of all reasons, climate and topography. good work peace, sean

it seems to me, primarily because the critique of this work is an opinion and obviously subjective, that your comment is directed towards me. i'm more than curious as to what lie you believe i have told? prior to signing up on this site, my original thoughts upon reviewing it were as follows, "way too much ego floating around this site" "way too much bad poetry on this site" "way too many people who think they know what perfection is" "not enough constructive criticism/feedback" your comment has me picturing you perceiving yourself as sitting upon a cloud looking down upon all the feeble people below as though they were put there for your amusement... i'd like to hear a dick's version of truth and reality, so why don't you include that in your next constructive comment so we can create more "asymmetry of conversation." peace, sean
