HA! Supreme, once again. You prove once again to be the poemranker Master of Rhyme (P.I.) Give me one good reason why I shouldn't blabber childish adulation all over your poetry! -9- 'To address a Knight of the Realm as a "Mr."' - unforgivable.

Ha! I managed to miss the Ornella episode entirely - although I've seen the Orange Award captions, I have no idea what actually happened. And over here - I'm too broke (and too English, possibly!) to celebrate the day in style...plus all the Irish pubs will be utterly rammed tonight. But then, it wouldn't be St. P's Day otherwise - the Irish certainly know how to celebrate! Enjoy!

Actually, I was away for a long time too--we all seemed to split around the same time. Things got a little wacky during the Ornella Muti fiasco and whatnot. But, yeah, I was HH. Not thick at all--no reason you'd know. And right back atcha! About to end my workday and go find a nice Jameson rocks somewhere, in honor of the occasion. ;) Here's lookin' at ya!

Yes - I sell King Edwards from time to time when I'm working to pay my way through uni...and lets face it, there's nothing more British than a KE. Except for a DA, of course. Actually I think it's a stunt for the university SU elections...it definitely works for me, I'll be certain to vote for a potato. By the way, just in case any more proof of how thick I am were needed, it took me weeks to work out that you used to log in here as hatters hare - you changed name while I was away. Anyhoo, happy St. Patrick's Day!

"Mistah Kurtz—he dead. A penny for the Old Guy" Lots to work with here--many good lines and thoughts. Leans a little to the side of polemic though.

Fried eggs! Exactly! Well, no, I'm kidding. I never thought of eggs, not once. But it's interesting how you got there. Ah, yes! The King Edward potato! ;) Ummm . . . A little research yields that "King Edward potatoes have been the true British potato for centuries." http://gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_veg_diary/fruit_veg_mini_project_november_1_potato_kingedward.htm Maybe he or she is just a true potato patriot.

Not sure what changed, honestly, but here's a revote. Just curious--what made you choose tercets?

Hmm...I give a lot to Plan International and have yet to receive from an unexpected source - can I borrow some of your relatives?

Well Alchemy, did I speak about zodiac's wife dying? I don't think so. And God does love him very much, there's no denying that.... and what about you? Aren't you going to join him there in Alaska for some stuffed roast chicken. I prepare it well. Could send you one with compliments from life accross the seas! Specially for you! And boy, what a scene! Chicken stall owners sit with nothing in their stalls, a sunken look on their faces and with absolutely none of their employees with them! They're selling it now for just Rs.5.oo which is an equivalent to roughly 80 cents per kg, I think. Just when we thought it was wrapping up, another outbreak shows up... and yet I long to eat fried chicken!

Those times would be the best years of your life... not fatalistic or unfortunate. What I'm trying to say is that it's not a loved one's death that's the ultimate, that we have to take into account.... but life's situations. There's so many situations in life where we reach a dead end. Why I am so strong on my point is that I have tested scripture passages... and have asked my self why, how .. is it true, etc. And one instance where I've tested it was on the passage "Give and it will come backed to you. Pressed down shaken together and running over, when you give to the Lord." and I've tried to give.... some of the little cash I had on me (I don't work and one person's salary isn't enough for a four member family)... and within 24 hrs.... somebody sent me more than double the amount for no reason...a gift. So I gave more money to the church and then about Aust$ 150.00 was sent to me by another relative as a gift, within a few days. Till then there had been no gift sent from this sourse by way of cash. I've found this a very useful way of getting through... ie. by testing the scriptures and knowing for myself that its true. And at times one just has to be patient knowing that all things work for good to those that love the Lord. It pays off with the immediate grace of peace and a blissful sleep despite the storms.

It's kinda different... appreciate that you think its an upbeat poem.

ecargo, here too its called the 'the king of fruit'. It's pretty expensive here for a kg of mangoes, although its grown here, and trading it is going to make it even worse for us. This idea is not welcomed well by the general public out here... Green mangoes are already in bloom.... and that's how I got the idea of the mango pickle. I love eating them with salt and chili powder. Hmmmm... my mouth's watering.

thank God I didn't read Midnight's children...so I can proudly say that this is my own! No one's influence or impression upon my mind. But then, great minds think alike! :-)

Stanza 9 - so very true. Well, I've never joined a socialist party, but still I hear what you're saying. Having missed the news yesterday I didn't get the story of those drug tests that went wrong...but that sounded like a 'The horror! The horror!' moment...

I know of someone who had half their teeth knocked out while playing rugby; this poem made me think of that.
Re: Indiscrete by ecargo Ranger 62.252.32.15 17-Mar-06/10:16 AM
Great lines, I thought you were going to build on the rhymes in lines 1 and 2 (loved 'trophy or catastrophe?' by the way) but it works well as it is. Now, I have a very strange reading of this. It made me think of fried eggs. 'Naked' - skin-coloured shell...'deconstructed motion' - the way an egg rolls...'bucked' - 'clucked'...'morning's flat' - in the pan...'sun slap through brocade' - yolk through shell...'oddball artifact' - speaks for itself. Really, the more I think about that reading, the more I realise how weird I am. Hmm. Speaking of oddball artifacts, for two days now there's been half a potato with a small paper flag saying 'King Edward' sat on top of a car on my way to uni.

Hey Mandy--the NY Times had an op-ed piece on Indian mangos. It called them "the King of Fruit, Indian masterpieces that are burnished like jewels, oozing sweet, complex flavors acquired after two millenniums of painstaking grafting." Looks like they'll be headed our way as part of the new nuke/trade pact. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/12/opinion/12jaffrey.html Yum.
