Re: I wish I was a chav by Stephen Robins Mr Pig 86.137.20.84 2-Aug-06/8:03 AM
My son Edgar Von Smythe the third has recently been dating a girl called Chelsea whom I suspect is 'Chavesque'. She has a potty mouth and last week I was about to enter his bedroom till he shouted 'Father do not come in, Chelsea is going down on me' I had a feeling she was depressed and made her some earl grey but the ungrateful girl at least was being comforted by Edgar. Edgar is my only child from my first wife Lai-Longtime from Thailand. Nice poem it reeled me in my boy.

Ahh the infamous North England beating by a thug in a bow tie with half mast farrah's - I do miss taking Vera for a tea dance at the Savoy there, that was until it turned into a sex shop mart selling fellatio snow globes and rampant rabbi's (or is it rabbits i never was quite sure)

Tis a delight to be back Sire. Birmingham is a vile city full of bumptuous metrosexuals and a place one would rather forget after my rather unsavoury incident with a harlot in spearmint rhino. Why do they call it that anyway? its not like theirs any spearmints even though some of the ladies of the night resemble rhino's. More of a Mollie Sugden chap me.

Global warming is becoming cliché. You are right there. The problem is that few people seem to care. The children will pay for our not caring, and for that I endure cliché.

The 1950’s in Southern California were a time of excruciating lung pains from smog. So thick was the toxic haze that the government issued “smog alerts” and advised everyone to stay indoors. Those days are gone with the advent of air pollution controls. The other interpretations of “fifties” are understandable to anyone from other parts of the world. I don’t quite understand the problem with “loosens” though. Thanks for the comment.

Yep, I think “grip” will suit the second usage of “vice” better. Thanks

Do I smell rancor on the ranker? I know it’s poemranker, not poetranker, but it’s hard to be objective on this one. First the easy stuff: why the “>” and the double space before “Jesus”? Then the logical stuff, like how can cataracts be silver and gold? And the grammar stuff like, “Israeli,” “Palestinian” and “Texan.” But what intrigues me about this is the prayer of David, a man after God’s own heart, who said, “Strike all my enemies in the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.” It’s taken a long time, maybe, and the answer isn’t as expected, and it makes it look a whole lot like something else, but who knows the ways of God. Anyway, you’ve well expressed an angst.

Good stuff, especially: God is just an excuse...I really dig that. Very intense.

I'm getting melting polar ice caps from it. Sounds really good.

Just your basic iambic pentameter, but thanks. ;)

Whoever will you have left to blame if everyone stops believing in God? Maybe then we'll blame the soccer fans.

Cool sounds in this, Mac--"snap and graaaaple; laaand aaaanimal, you in crew/biting balance do; levels several ladders; etc. Love the long vowel sounds throughout, the casual rhyming, the wordplay. You need a little more coherence though--not necessarily a linear narrative or a story, but something strong enough to give the suggestion of (if not actual) sense/structure. Don't let the rhymes drive it too much either. Cool.

You can almost see the embedded dirt of Coventry. The kebab shoppe made me laugh the most. Middle Eastern food may be the worst to barf up (it's the cumin). Liked the dialog with the bouncer too. The harshest beatdown I ever saw was in the UK--we had a couple of days at Blackpool (nothing like what I expected--sort of a down-at-heel, minor-scale Mardi Gras, which came as a shock to us unsuspecting Yanks), and some guy tried to push his way past a ham-fisted bouncer, who knocked him down and HAMMERED him until the cops came along and HAMMERED him. I've seen NYC bouncer/cop beatdowns, but damn, nothing, nothing like that.
