On coming back home From being away I really expected no party Condolences or thanks. Oh maybe a word or two From someone who cared, But rhymes and limericks Coming from everyone? I can’t tell you how humble This all makes me feel How utterly unworthy Your concern is quite nice. I just want to ease your troubled minds And say that in Argentina I did not actually drown in the marina, But write this in a little cantina. Now, the words in your verse May sound to some terse And though I may not understand I know your intension Appreciate invention Will get back to you Soon as I can.

Appallingly poignant nonsense

I was wondering where you've been.

I've been busy with a different sort of imaginary life. Thanks, it's nice to be missed.

It makes sense if you're referring to back then. I thought you were referring to now.

I'm sorry it makse sense in either sense. I sense a senseless thankfulness.

I wanted the present tense here to show immediacy - a note being written in the cantina right after reading theirs.
