My Chocolate F-9 (Free verse) by abecedarian
Spruce billets the top Maple the back, sides, and neck Thickness sanded the sides and sawn straight Bended the wood not too wet to break Joined the plates and carved for days And finally now it rings D sharp Just as it should Everything left is a month between me and my chocolate F-9 Until finally I can hear it sing The urge to rush is unbearable a disaster in waiting So patience and do this right Just as I should

Up the ladder: A Best Friend
Down the ladder: Even the elephants

what about the varnish? talk about the pines that gave it, and how patient they were to give their blood for the sharpened D of eternity.

maybe you drink a chocolate colored guiness (or 2) while you wait for the chocolate varnish to dry.

the last quatrain--just scrap it, and go from there.

why do we run out of steam like that, i wonder?

All true. Your question is a good one worth discussing: is it the stretching of an idea only so large to begin with? Is it laziness? Dunno. I guess that and more depending.

A Gibson mandolin, I believe. And an expensive one.

This expresses that desire to rush but the fear of breaking very well - and that has larger implications.
liked it!

Correct on all points. Although only ~$400 if you make it yourself (assuming one doesn't screw it up).

That's an amazing bargain - is like a kit? Horrey cow (a good deal built would be two and a half grand, no?).

Well you can buy a kit if you want but I've heard that you can't trust the wood in the kits (other people think the kits are fine). Typically the kits come slightly pre-assembled which is good if you don't have much in the way of tools or experience. It is cheaper (and more satisfying I think) to buy the raw parts and do everything yourself (short of casting the metal bits). If you're interested go to www.stewmac.com . They are a luthier supply company and sell everything one would need.

'thickness' sanded? How, does thickness sand? 4th stanza- 'everything' or the only thing?

The only thing left
between me and my chocolate f-9
is a month, and then finally
I'll hear her sing.

The unbearable urge to rush
is a disaster, waiting.
So patience for once,
do this right, just for once
as I should.

Good points. There is a machine called a thickness sander. So when one is using it one is 'thickness sanding' although I don't like the name either. True it is 'only' a month, but that month is composed of 'everything' else that must be done for completion of the project. Thank you for the good read.
