Where Have All the Punk Rockers Gone? (Free verse) by wilco
The best are kept at bay. An inverted Darwinian orgy of sound. Festering on the vines, while the gods of old lose interest. There's a change in the air. Bordering on disturbing. Clamoring for approval, as a million records hit the floor. It's getting very quiet in the world. For the moment, at least. Turn off the radio, so that you can hear it too. Can you hear it?

Down the ladder: The Ocean Prefers A Sunset

"inverted Darwinian orgy of sound" wow.

De-evolution? Good with punk; well said.

As for the rest, I wish you could make it flow a little smoother without creating a dichotomy between the punk rock sound and, well - smooth flow.

I don't know the punk rock scene, guess why, but I like the "inverted Darwinian orgy of sound" description of it. If it's festering on the vines, good ridance.

Actually music in general is festering on the vine. Well, not really, but if you turn on the radio, you think it is. Here's hoping that Creed make a new album soon!

Nice. But I bet that Tom Waits could beat up Don Henley in a New York minute. ;0)

And for those who didn't get it, I was being sarcastic about the Creed thing.....

argh.

never explain a joke!
[n/a] wilco @ 24.176.102.131 > <~> | 4-May-04/7:35 PM | Reply
I know.....but I thought about it and I can't have someone thinking that I like Creed....even if it ruins it...just can't have it.
[n/a] wilco @ 24.176.102.131 > wilco | 4-May-04/7:36 PM | Reply
Besides, what if Creed saw it and based their decision to make a new album solely on that joke. Then it would be my fault and I would have to kill myself for unleashing that upon the world.

okay. you got me on that one.

then you have no spine. who cares what they think?

i think i'll name it, Christal Laine Creed.

Are you seeing the new Pixies tour? They should still be playing in one of those Northern territories - Chicago and Toronto in November, I think.

I hear Frank Black is worse than ever.

yep, lickety splitly; have you ever actually read the lyrics to that song? I'm gonna go dig those up now (it works as a song, but on paper - whoah. :O)

Foundem:

Well, my time went to quickly
I went lickety-splitly out to my old fifty-five
As I pulled away slowly, feelin' so holy,
God knows I was feelin' alive
And now the sun's comin' up
I'm ridin' with Lady Luck
Freeway cars and trucks

Stars beginning to fade, and I lead the parade
Just a wishin' I'd stayed a little longer
Lord, don't you know the feelin's gettin' stronger

Six in the morning, gave me no warnin'
I had to be on my way
Now the cars are all passin' me,
Trucks are all flashin' me
I'm headed home from your place

And now the sun's comin' up
I'm ridin' with Lady Luck
Freeway cars and trucks

(minus chorus and bridge)

I love that song. It's my Tom Waits favorite. Happy to see sombody on the far-away East Coast likeing my underdog. Sure would like to see him in concert and sober, or nearly so.

You know thats an Eagles song (too?), right?
[9] deleted user @ 68.66.196.168 > Shuushin | 6-May-04/11:08 AM | Reply
Wrong. I'd be devistated to think my homless ratchet-throated idol did not write that. Did he?

Phew - you can sleep easy. "Ol '55" was on Wait's Album "Closing Time" (1973)- The Eagles did a cover of it on "On The Border" (1974). Track 7 :)
