Re: Neil Simon is Living in My Lunula by MacFrantic cheese.doodles 76.64.12.184 22-Jul-07/9:10 AM
I like the last stanza; the rest is a bit weak

There are no unwritten thoughts here and it's wrong for you to deny that the thought could happen, because it did. Whether or not I have a mutant brain is another question... Don't take the anti-Darwinist comment amiss. I was only being flippant. I do that too much.

But indeed you are a freak if you come unglued at a lovely interaction of bird and baby. If you were thinking something else and writing this, I cannot read you unwritten thoughts. I am not anti-Darwinist unless you mean the religion of Darwinism, not the theory.

Well that explains it.

Do not mock worship, you boor.

Given the performance that I was 'treated' to by my little bundle of joy this morning, I'm inclined to agree... Congratulations on your graduation, though, there's nothing better than flouncing around in a big robe for the day!

Yesterday I officially became a Gradu-ate and the ceremony was splendid apart from a trinity of babies who managed to set up some sort of crying rota well in advance. As soon as one of the little fuckers had bawled its tonsils out another would pick up the chant with added smugness. So I must disagree that any baby speaks merely for the joy of speaking; it is more clearly for the joy of interrupting a solemn and dignified event.

Is this a poeme or just rhythmic prose? I'm not sure that writing it with "poetic" line breaks actually contributes anything to it. 'Skyscrappers' is a typo, although it gives me marvellous visions of dive-bombing pigeons in Trafalgar Square.

I think Dovina over-complicated her reading. Sometimes a poeme works better with a light read than a really in-depth analysis of the logic. The critic tends to end up confusing his/herself. Frost's sonnet "A Soldier" should be required reading by law.

Well, I thought that, and I'm not a complete freak... What a strange criticism, denying something that's looking you in the face. Are you an anti-Darwinist too?

That's the most constructive thing you have ever said. Not the funniest though.

How can a sin know anything? Otherwise nice.

"elocuted bitterness" is a nice expression, but I balk at believing that anyone would think that under this circumstance. The rest is nice.

Why would anyone add "s" to "men" and "women," words that are already plural? Bowls!

Of course, and she was grateful.

I would have punctuated it like this: During a day and a half of wind and rain There's no point bringing the washing in. And the loose-limbed shirts and trouser legs, The clinging bras and flapping skirts, Slick with water like sweaty skin, Dance a blissful drunken shrug And will not stop till the sun floods in.

I hope you disciplined her.

I may not suggest that. Only mens may grow facial hairs. Womens aren't allowed. I myself maintain a 3-4 mm layer of stubble, because it enhances my grizzled features, making my excellent jaw line even more excellent. I only shave it down before meeting my idiotic clients -- a ritual which vexes me greatly, because it means I must wander around nude-faced for a couple of days, waiting for the Excellence to return. Womens, on the other hand, should have pure, delicate features, unsullied by the loss of innocence which comes facial hairs and the capacity for rational thought.

I still don't know where you see the IPS, but anyway, I'm not very good at that sort of thing. Further investigation has shown that it was my wife thinking she was doing me a favour. I've told her not to bother in the future.
