If God Was a Nihilist (Free verse) by baughworm
And if God was a nihilist, Would we still have Wal-Mart? (smiles and sweatshops) Would Columbus have even ever Looked out to sea? (slaughter and slavery) Would Milton have bothered Paining students who would Rather be drinking in smoky bars? Would we still have fallen? (apples and condoms) If God didn’t care, Could everyone sing in Voices of angels and Dance in the fields, Not sit scowling, Guns in lap, Protecting our fences? (neighbors and pirates) If God was a nihilist, Would Satan, by now, Have bored with his Spiteful meddling? (ignore him and he’ll go away) And, could we then finally claim, Without hesitation, That man is Good.

Up the ladder: Pledge
Down the ladder: A Sinner’s Prayer

You are asking whether this stuff would happen if God has an opinion on whether it happens. It's like asking if God has any control, and implying He does not.

Hey, great answer! Considering that same addled notion is the basis for about all your poetry.

Yeah, my most recent's a good example - looking at those patched holes in the wall and wondering what pictures hung from those nails, wondering if his unseen life affects mine, if God's at work, or if fate's at work, which come to think of it implies God, doesn't it? Notions to play with with no worries about how addeled they are. Someday I'll become as mature as you and free from addled notions.

Hey, great sarcastic response!

Too bad I said "about all your poetry" and not just "all your poetry, including your most recent". Seriously, do you only read like every fifth word or something?

PS-Your ten times as mature as I am.

Seems to get rolling, then stalls. Encore? Maybe check the definition of nihilist. I'm not sure.

Thanks! Maybe you mean He doesn't believe in GodGod.

Is man good? It would be an important claim to make, especially if it is false. It is better to leave God or the gods out of the process of defining goodness if we wish to be included as good. The means of doing so usually involves obtaining instructions and a sharp instrument from the wife and/or mother of the reigning patriarch. One implication of a poem like this is that the pen might be the instrument.
