Enlightenment (Free verse) by Dovina
O Dawn of Reason, Were it not for you, America bows to a queen, Louis XVI fathered a king, And Marie died old at Versailles. Were it not for conceived equality, Voltaire, and nobility’s shame, Feudal Europe languors still While princes regal ride. But light and wisdom fill our lives, Mold us now two centuries, Crossing every barrier Save the English Channel.

Way to go, Dovina. The only queen America bows to these days is George Michaels. Kick the Brits ass.

Oh, Wow, could I have been so cruel as to imply that asses should be kicked?

Nonsense, the dawn of reason has never been less likely in the U.S.: your President is a religious fanatic and your country is inhabited by moronic zealots. CNBC and Fox news fill your minds up with tripe and as a consequence there is no country in the world as close minded and addicted to a misconceived notion of freedom. No doubt Thomas Jefferson would be happy to see how the dawn of reason had broken across an obese landscape to reveal a country full of be-mulletted half wits travelling from one dispensary of sugary confection to another whilst becrying the joy of living in a land where freedom of thought extends to which Krispy Kreme donught they will fill their fat mouths with next.

The Enlightenment gave rise to the American Experiment, the French Revolution, and the now ubiquitous understanding that all people have intrinsically equal rights to purse happiness. Everywhere except England. Your “gentlemen” are feudal reminder of what our ancestors fought to destroy. And now your prime minister tries to make it all right by latching onto our president like a whining boy to a big brother. No, Sir Robins, your lance is obtund. You live in dreams of dead glory.

Please explain whose Enlightenment so influenced the founding fathers? and please also explain who deposed of slavery first; was it the Clapham bretheren or John Brown? then elucidate me as to which nation has the "Mother of Parliaments", took it in the ass from Hitler defending freedom and then blythely looked on as the nation it had spawned developed a greed unsurpassed in human history. Our Gentlemen have achieved a great deal more to improve the state of the world than your colossally mishapen corporate sloths who only appear to be able to look as far as their next grant of options.

Your final riposte is as sharp as VioletSuedes features.
