O Dawn of Reason, Were it not for you, America bows to a queen, Louis XVI fathered a king, And Marie died old at Versailles. Were it not for conceived equality, Voltaire, and nobility’s shame, Feudal Europe languors still While princes regal ride. But light and wisdom fill our lives, Mold us now two centuries, Crossing every barrier Save the English Channel.
