spending time on the beach as the world comes sneezing to an end (Thursday afternoon) (Free verse) by balthazar
Frail in the massive heat
the air bends under its own weight
curling up
swallowed
unrecognizable
unbreathable finally
and the sea recedes
revealing the tops of the maples
and then surges, bursting
as the flames begin to rise in the distance.
