Deck's Tavern (Free verse) by Ombre
She stood outside on cold grey stones
Flames of hellfire in her eyes
Beads of amber woven in her hair
And her nails long, pointed and red,
Dressed in ragged shreds of black
White-skinned, dark-lipped and depraved,
Scarred and broken and sin-incrusted
In the name of the devil's legions
Rings of silver with blackened stones
Locked upon her fingers
And her neck was all adorned
With a necklace of human heads
And when she walked through the door
Into the hell of Deck's Tavern
Every man living stopped and turned
And stared and licked his chops with lust
Looking at her lips just made to kiss
And the sweep of her hips and of her legs
And the way she stared at every man
As if measuring his drunken worth.
And empty beer mugs and broken bottles
Were forgotten on the floor
As rutting whores and their companions
Stopped their work and turned to stare.
And she smiled a little twisted smile
Showing off her white sharp teeth
And she walked in and called for ale
And the barman he came quick as hell
And filled her tankard for her
And every man stared at her ragged white back
Visible through her torn shirt
And at the whip marks that jeweled it
With streaks of ruby red
And their eyes grew all glassy with lust
As they waited for her to turn.
They took their knives from their pockets
And made ready for the fight
Locked their eyes and looked to see
Who'd be the first to have the gall
To try and bring her away with him
And the women stared and stood back
Waiting to see who would be left
Of those who were sitting waiting there
Chains and handcuffs in their eyes
Knives and ropes and whips and pain
Burning inside their minds and groins
Waiting for her to turn.
And then she turned and stared them down
Flames of hell burning in her eyes
Daring them to try and take her
And they sat under her spell
And she walked towards them all
Looked into the eyes of each and spat on to the floor.
The smell of piss and puke and drool
Unwashed men and shit and sweat
Was around them like a heavy mist
And she laughed at little as she looked at them
And then she began to dance.
She began to dance before them all,
Stuck a rose between her teeth
Swayed her hips like a common whore
And they sat entranced before her
Her breasts waving like a flag of sin
Her hair all over her face
And the legs she showed kept them on their knees
And the devil was in their eyes.
The knives they stayed upon the tables
The beer stayed in the glasses
They could not move nor barely think
As she moved her ass towards them.
Then one man actually had the guts
To stand and move towards her
And she took the rose out of her teeth
Threw it into a corner
And she spread her arms towards him
Guided him into the dance
Took no notice of his rotting teeth
Nor the sweat pouring down his face
But licked her lips and motioned him on
And he came to her like a babe in arms
Not daring to think he might have a chance
As she wrapped her arms around him.
Then she moved him back towards an empty table
And sat on it and smiled
And the assistance couldn't turn its eyes
Nor would have it wanted to
She dropped his pants and looked at him
And licked her teeth with glee
His eyes were so clouded over now
It was a wonder he could see
And he grabbed her breasts and tried to kiss her lips
But she laughed and sat back farther
Then opened her legs as though to guide him in
And he made as if to do so.
But at the last moment her hand shot out
Five red nails long and sharp
And tore his groin from him
And tossed it to the others
And pushed him back onto the ground
Laughing at his scream
And pushed him to his front and watched him as he spewed
And her nails were redder now
And the whole assistance let up a cry of horror
As she slipped easily to the door
And walked out onto the cold grey stones
And was seen no more.
