Go On a Business Trip (Free verse) by abecedarian
Brazil, France, Germany, Japan Spent several days each place To feel each in turn to feel the others No vacation I was on a business trip Auf Geschäftsreise That what business may lead To know thyself To know the rest Brings stronger allies New markets to explore A vision of the future And you within it Forget vacation A broken promise in waiting Go on a business trip instead And you will come back New

Up the ladder: Limmerick, Starring Andy
Down the ladder: The spinning infirmary

I've never done one really. At least as far as the left brain's definition of one goes.

I think your right brain's left ear is more attune to my intent here.

I know how you feel, I am always jet-setting around the globe: Huddersfiled, Slough, Tunbrige Wells... Boy, it never ends.

Me too. I had to go to Slough last week. I have to go to Northampton tomorrow.

Have you seen the "Crap Towns" website?

http://www.craptowns.com/html/frontsection/craptowns/30_5/england.htm

"If a town if best described by it's people, then Leicester is a large drunk man throwing chicken burger wrappers into the street."

Hmmm. I think the pressed shirt imagery is enabling a more literal read than I intended.

'To what business may lead to know thyself,
go on a business trip'.

This poem is meant as the aquisition/appropriation of a tidy concept with the subsequent fragmentation and repackaging into a marketable value added product.

Thats certainly how I read it, so the poem has certainly done its job(to follow on your metaphor)

Nice little moral of the story there at the end, I know what you mean.
