It's about truckin' (Free verse) by INTRANSIT
It's about corners It's about curves someone cut me off and I had to swerve. It's having the sand and moving some boulders. That son-of-a-bitch just jumped off the shoulder! It's about food It's about shelter No logic in logistics it's all helter-skelter. It's coast to coast and doin' the rounds It's thirty-five uphill at eighty-thousand pounds. It's going to New York at my behest and still getting done despite the rats nest. It's about lights. It's about chrome. It's three-hundred-sixty-five days of not going home. It's a lifestyle or, a means to an end. Delivering unscathed your new Mercedes Benz. It's about needs. It's about drive, delivering oxygen that keeps your grandma alive It's about art. It's about physics. You can't get the job done without knowing some tricks. It's about sun. It's about rain. It's about intermodal; from the ship to the train. It's about cabovers. It's about hoods. It's about the industry and all of its' moods. It's about lonliness, being starved for affection. Wishing you could get loaded in a homeward direction. It's about midnight runs and no doubt, I'm sure you know it's usually a big truck that's first to the rescue.

good stuff here, but the arbitrary uneveness is really disruptive.

change the pace when you want us to slam on the brakes. and then only. no vote/

So many, create and arrange thier poems, it's what they think...not feel. I love that you write your life, your existence.
how YOU portray the world...not how you are expected to. Poetry is not just about guidelines, too often feeling is lost in the pursuit of perfection. I also believe that your job is often overlooked as the noble position that it is. This is your reality, you demand respect....you have mine.

Why don't you write more? It's great therapy...if nothing else.

flow suggestions:

"and doin' the rounds" (drop "the")?

[[why not 13, 15, 18, or thirteen, fifteen, eighteen?]]

(gearing down / keeping control) -> "gearing down for control"

"despite the laws
driving drunk is on the rise"? [nah, not quite] :/

"a means to an end" feels clunky.

"and ontime delivery
of the oxygen keeping grandma alive" (still not quite)

"still delivering a smile" -> "but delivering a smile" (less of a pause, somehow)

8 hoping for more flow, or more pointed stop-and-go (as the <~>-meister states)

Meh. Just edited for better sound.

Good. Sounds real, as if you actually believe it. "having" in verse 2 sounds weak.

Since I've been travelling and no doubt annoying the hell out of truckies (going 80k's when the limits 110) I've developed a need to know why this kind of life is so appealing. I say life, instead of work beacuse I feel in another time I think I could have lived this way. Could you write about this aspect, or have you done so? I like this poem's descriptive, insightful picture of what the life entails. But, would love to read about why.

Well Skamper, after doing this for some 11 years now, appealing is not a word (I) would use. Trucking for me was more of a "seemed like a good idea at the time" thing. Sorry to dissapoint. When I first started it was a neat new challenge. Now it's more like wrote. Emphasis on "like". It does have its moments and I'll bump up an older poem that I've been wanting to revisit.

No dissapointment - each of us have our own reasons for doing what we do. Look forward to reading the older one too.. :)
