Comfort Food (Free verse) by jessicazee
A being can crawl into a kreplach Or expand within a stuffed shell Fists clenched, rageless. Blintz bliss in a girdle of papery crepe - A snug lumpia in hand Softens a beast in the body. A vessel, full filled, becomes Pillows for smallest children, Vital hugs, dumplings. A breast, a pierogi Embraced by slender Rinds of vellum and pulp. To be or to ravioli, The pot stickers Have answers, have nature.

Down the ladder: Malaries

I live on the shores of Lake Michigan. Lots of toothsome delights here. Explain your gravity monsters? Matzo balls? I am having a little fun.

My wife and I live in Keno. Yes there are many toothsome delights on the shores. However, they tend to add things like, love handles and dunlaps, depending on gender,I.E. Gravity monsters. Fun is what it's all about!

tee hee i grew up in Racine & now reside north in the bigger, beerier burg. I like Tenuta's so very much and also the Keno Drive-Inn.

This could be the birthplace of gravity monsters what with beer and cheese and all. I did'nt catch the "wrapped" foods. Must be that damnable speed reading course I took in high school! On my way to d.c. with a load of cars, glad they found that sniper putz.

Don't forget the gnocchi. Every 11th day of the month. You have offended my ethnic sensibilities by your glaring exclusion. Even the Asians are represented by those oily little slugs they try to pass off as dumplings Hmpff!

Ravioli are Italian! I was going for the foods that are filled or stuffed. I guess I left out empanadas, meat pies, tamales, shumai, etc.

I was just teasing. Good poem. Gnocchi is my favorite comfort food and seem to fit your them, lovely little pillows that they are. Yuo couldn't possibly list them all.

Hmmmmmm. A reasonable effort. It requires reading three times though.

an interesting poem, the mixture of the two sets of
imagery is repellant, brings to mind eating disorders, perhaps that was the intention of the poet, no matter a poem takes on a life of its own once it is born. Smooth blending of imagery, I don't know what to make of the, hmm, old world nature of the foods mentioned...

"snug lumpia" are better than pierogis any day. this was a great poem and still will be later, after 'was'.
