Father of Mine (Free verse) by tre
You have pictures on your desk Of when we were six Don't you know time's passed you by? Every guy I'm with tells me to forget about you The dead beat who left But daddy you effect me in my relationships with men My insecurities, my jealous tendencies No stability to cling to And when I open an album and see the pictures of you He starts to cry Because he looks just like you But he wants nothing to do with you. He comes to me for advice I tell him "don't get attached, let it go, play it cool." As I hold myself up Repeating the same lines in my head About the guy that won't go away The longing The wanting For his hand to hold when he told me with confidence Forget about you You Daddy. It's ironic, how the guys that cause hurt never leave And the ones that treat me like a queen can't compete With the game Of persistent attempts to get you to see me and take me back. I'll try forever, until you pick up your phone Wonder forever, if you'll call me on your own I threw away my security For a thrill, and I can't stop Can't settle For stability, tranquility My insanity keeps me reaching for you...

Up the ladder: patricide
