Edna's Christmas Farewell (Free verse) by Edna Sweetlove
I - On Christmas Eve (Am heiligen Abend)
I sit alone
Eating my supper
And a glass or two
Or three or four
Or five or six
Or more, yes please,
Of lonely wine
And I know there is nothing
Left in life for me.
Why am I so lonely and friendless?
II - On Christmas Day (Am ersten Weihnachtstag)
On Christmas Day
I sit alone again
Staring at the wall
An empty bottle on the table
Another on the floor.
Thank Holy God there is more
Waiting in the box
Next to my lonely bed
There is nothing at all
For me to look forward to
Except eternal sleep.
God if he exists
Has destroyed me.
Thank you, scumbags all,
You will be soon rid of me
And then you can rejoice.
III - On Boxing Day (Am zweiten Weihnachtstag)
I woke up on my last day on earth
I looked out of the lonely window
I saw the nothingness of eternity waiting for me
I rejoiced in my coming death
And I shall grasp the happy pill bottle
And the friendly whisky flask of doom.
Let me embrace the blackness of death with one last generous gesture:
At least it's twenty year old malt.
Why be mean about your own suicide?
Enjoy yourself, it's much later than you think -
And so farewell, prostrate yet testate.
