Grandma (Free verse) by Dovina
Senses sharpened to understand pain, fingers burning, hot sand in the joints, she’s learned common things uncommonly well. Not just good works, it’s goodness of heart.

Up the ladder: Paradelle of Progress
Down the ladder: "46 million babies a year"

I hear that arthritis is painful.

So do I, and it looks painful when I see those contorted hands at work.

Not sure senses sharpen with age. Need to know more about 'common things' and 'good works'.

Senses do not usually sharpen with age. Her senses were sharpened, I believe, because her good heart needed perception of pain in others to fulfill its desires, somewhat like a blind person sharpens her sense of hearing.

I agree with richa again. I don't think older peoples' senses are sharpened. Considering how bad things are for young people with, say, childhood arthritis, it's easy to imagine old peoples' senses are dulled somewhat to pain.

Honest question: What do you think is the difference between good works and goodness of the heart? Do you think people just accidentally do good works most of the time?

Many people do good works because they feel obligated – by religion, ethics, return of favors, etc. Goodness of heart is a quality that breeds good works from within the person’s nature. Senses are sharpened to understand pain in others because of this quality .

It doesn't matter if there senses are sharpen are not. They are
more wiser than we are(young people). You can't fault older people for young people with, say, childhood Arthritis. no man,
woman or child know whats predestined for them. only one person
knows that. And pain hurts i dont give a ---- how old you are.

It is true that elderlies have supremely heightened senses, often developing new senses to compensate for their appalling bladder control. Many employ metallic probes which, when combined with rampant and erratic flailing, mean their sphere of immediate physical contact is widened to disproportionately insolent proportions. That elderlies are wiser than normals is beyond any doubt. For should an elderly pass stool on a discarded badmington racket, it is not the elderly that will suffer the horrific consequences, but the naked, supple, golden skinned badmington player, who in a fit of youthful foolhardiness left it in the Winston Churchill Bingo Museum.

D.A. you know one day, If we live that long we are going to get
old. Don't put no bad mouth on me I'm almost a half century old.

a person is old when they put their hand in a fire and god does not care enough to make them pull it away :(
[n/a] -=Dark_Angel=-, P.I. @ 81.153.196.50 > richa | 5-Nov-04/8:58 AM | Reply
yeah that's the number one cause of death among elderlies :(

small god, but you know the real God would'nt let that happen.
anyway we are taught that fire burns. maybe one day the real God
will show some of us how it feels when we are burning in HELL

I find that rather extraordinary. God regularly lets people accidentally burn themselves to death. And I'm not just talking about the heathens, either.

Yeah, as one's senses dull with age, it seems that the only thing one still feels strongly as it did in youth is pain. Pain changes from "growing pains" to "growing older pains."

I'm not an old man yet, but growing older pains really hurts.
thats why young people need to try to take good care of themselfs
while they are young.because if they dont,it will come back to
haunt them one day.

The only thing that will come back to haunt young people is the extraordinarily elderly stool that's currently lying undiscovered in Grandfather's toolbox. God alone knows how it got there.
