Decks of Cards (So Long to the City) (Lyric) by wilco
On a Greyhound bus to the ocean; Taking the long way to ride and I've been waiting for a lifetime for something to wake me up inside. There's a thousand reasons not to stay here, and no excuses to remain. Grown tired of bars and decks of cards, and I know that it's the only way. Chorus: So long to the city I have known for ten long years, lord knows I've tried. And so long to the woman I love. There's no better way to say goodbye. This interstate is windin' through the heartland One more mile away from broken dreams. It never seems fair to have to leave your lover, but the southern way's the way it's got to be. A lonesome wind is blowin' through the willows and I never knew it'd be as bad as this. My guitars lost its sweet, sweet country feeling and all I want is your pretty mouth to kiss. So long to the city I have known for ten long years, lord knows I've tried. And so long to the woman I love. There's no better way to say goodbye.

Up the ladder: Burning your desert down
Down the ladder: The Outcry

Just thought I'd try my hand at a country song (I do live in Tennessee, after all).

Your job is to act as on-board sex receptacle.

You are not an original, and

Perfection is mostly persued by those who wish to do harm to others.

What a load of crap.

People who harm others mostly do so because they're more perfect than them, and therefore entitled to it. This causes all of the people who aren't perfect enough to do harm to band together into tribes that claim they don't want perfection anyway. Then the tribes fall apart into jellylike puddles of complex carbohydrates, which is the lowest common denominator of all living things.

If this is the case, then why haven't the "perfect" people been able to rid the earth of those who are less than perfect.

The old problem of eugenics. The fit, they think they have nothing to fear, but anyone existing at any point in time will eventually be rid of themselves as their own perfection is polarised in future generations. May I introduce the concept of perfect +1 at this point.

No, you may not.

They don't want to. Imperfect people amuse them.

I've read several of yours and you are pretty good at writing lyrics. The biggest problem I've seen with some of them is the structure. That's pretty easily fixed though, when you put the words to music. It's all about editing when you get to that stage. You can tell the ones of mine that I wrote with a guitar and the ones I wrote...just writing. The ones I wrote w/o using a guitar don't flow nearly as well.

As far as the lyrics go though, not too shabby.

I see my comment was too short. I meant I didn't want him to cancel himself out by what someone else said about his lyrics. You have it handled, carry on.

Unfortunately, I don't like country.. but you've managed to earn my blessing of seven despite my bias.

But really, I definately don't like country, it's a withering music style in my opinion, hangin by the thread of nostalgic hillbilly prom memories of Billy-Jake Roe snaking his hand underneath the skirt of his friends sister a year younger than he, but her bra's packed enough to let a lot of things slide with the aid of some potato gin.

I can't say I'm in total disagreement with what you say. There hasn't been a country song that I've liked in at least 8-10 years, but the old songs by Cash, Nelson, Hank and even Garth Brooks are definitely good.

Alabama was decent aswell, & I do have a flare for the Clearwater Revival(sp?).

But at heart I'm a rollin stones fan.. blues and rock intermixed in musical perfection. And yes, I do think Mc Jagger is an artistic genius. (though, having seen their last concert and the mummified look of the drummer, along with the fashion statement made by the guitarist made dennis rodman more tolerable to look at... for a short while anyway. Mc Jagger was the only one who seemed time capsuled with tight jeans and early eighties bar-shirt under his blue button-up shirt. Maybe he found the miracle drug that Cher has been praying for.)

Creedence Clearwater Revival...but I think that was more Rock than country...anyway, The Stones were good back in the day but have pretty much just become a parody of themselves. I'm a big fan of classic rock myself. I love The Dead, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Zeppelin, etc..

Currently, the best country band in America is Wilco. Or Kenny Chesney. Checkmate.

I don't know if Wilco can really be classified as country these days. Perhaps during the "A.M." and "Being There" days...now, not so much. The new album, " A Ghost is Born", really doesn't sound country at all.

They are, however, currently one of the best bands in America.

...and actually, the best current country band in America is the Jayhawks.
