PAKI, I never said that Byron was the greatest poet ever. What I meant to imply was that Byron had talent as a writer. You may prefer modern art to that produced in the Renaissance, but Michelangelo was still skilled beyond comparison with any painter today. And likewise, though you may prefer some poetry on this sire to that of Byron's, he was clearly a more talented writer.

PAKI, why is it that you think modern equals good?

Indeed. But you haven't addressed the issue. The issue is not whether or not the poetry on this site is better than poetry written years ago; the issue is whether or not the poets on this site are as talented - and my point was that they clearly are not. Michelangelo could reproduce any Turner prizewinning art; I can't imagine any artist today could, in his lifetime, reproduce a single square foot of the Sistine Chapel. And likewise (though not perhaps to the same degree) I doubt that any writer on this site could use the English language with skill approaching that of, say, Byron's - to use the language to its full extent while still producing rhythm and rhyme is true skill.

Your point attacks a point I never made. What I said was that Byron, had he lived in our times, could have written poetry superior to that on this site - his mastery of English was clearly far greater. What I didn't say was that Byron's poetry was better as such. Goodness is far more subjective than skill.

Michelangelo devoted his life to works of art - how can you argue he would have lacked emotion?

If the discussion comes down to this, then it seems easily resolvable: this is a forum where people have their works judged, and I dislike most people's works.

It seems you missed my point, maybe down to me expressing myself badly. I imagine not that Michelangelo would have recreated specific works, but that he could have created works of equal quality.

Alright, alright. Just forget everything I ever said about Michelfuckingangelo. It was just a god damn analogy.

Indeed. If the poem flowed better, and if it wasn't a rant against parents, I'd enjoy it.

PAKI, I think poemranker has gotten to you. You're throwing around accusations of multiple identities like... I don't know... but all I can say is, beakism didn't do it on poemranker with another username. Maybe it was Colonel Bustard.

I think that that should be up to the reader - it could be the nail I drove through your hand, or the rocket I'm going to fire at your house, or the penis growing from your forehead where you used to have hair. I think the interpretation the reader chooses will reveal something about their subconscious.
