who? preferably a group somewhat disparate from poemranker so as to not draw folks away from my one success. :)
There exist all sorts of photo sites (both artistic and non-artistic), so there's not much to compete with there. drawings are a possibility, but... do you think that many people draw and would want their drawings ranked? [willing to believe there are, but hadn't considered]. There are sites like that minus the ranking -- elfwood, for instance (my "page" there: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/zone/f/i/f recipes sounds promising. I use recipesource.com, but they could really do to filter the wheat from the chaff. Thanks for the thoughts. :) Of course, it would be nice to "fix" all the remaining issues with poemranker before moving on, but... (but I think I use that line of reasoning too often to simply do no more). reciperanker has a nice ring to it, though it looks really odd written down. :)
VisualRanker. Any image of any size less than 100K, no porn..etc. Add a greater range to the voting mechanism (ie not like 1-10 based on how much you like it, perhaps how much it appeals, how funny it is, how disturbing it is..etc.). 1 image per week per user unless a member of poemranker.
OR, of course, the untried ANYTHING RANKER. You submit anything of yours. Rank it. Opinion ranker? Prose ranker?? Novella ranker?? ASCII Art ranker?? Wait I'd dominate that game idearanker??? Opinion/rant/pissed off rambling ranker?? PotteryRanker? To rank pottery? Perhaps a personals webpage with ranking?? Use your imagination.k

I agree. You can get a java program that has a few drawing tools in it for making art in a prespecified format/size. The colors would be limited so they'd be very small. I'd love that. It'd be really invigorating to see what people could do within those boundaries. It'd be wonderful.

In all serousness, I'd like to see a poemranker that I could use with my high school creative writing students--so it's need to be a clean version of poemranker, something free of the obsceneties and adult/sexually oriented poems.I could then have about 15 people sign up right away, and put word out to other school districts. as poemranker stands now, i could not responsibly use it due to some of the adult(though mostly immature) themes.

maybe a "filtered.poemranker.com" or a checkbox in preferences? not sure how "clean" would work, really. I might could set up a teacher-moderated site, where the teachers "owned" sets of accounts and as such could remove or flag their poems, comments, ...? You think there could possibly be any grant money involved for a starving artist? ;)
Not sure how you'd get a filter to work, perhaps simple guidelines for posting and if someone violates them then they would get kicked off the site. I wouldn't want to get accused of "censorship", but parhaps an agreement to guidelines upon sign up and an "inappropriate" button or link to block the poem until it can be reviewed for general appropriateness. As Far as Grant money goes--that's not my department, but it certainly sounds feasable! just a thought--Perhaps you could charge a school license fee to use the site--say, 50 - 100 bucks to grant the school an access code to be used with their log ins.
I like your thinking-a site to rank stories etc. I thought I saw someone leave a suggestion whereby if you vote, you have to leave a comment and it displays your vote-that would be a resonably good idea.
Also, how about doing sections for different genres?
you have the option, when viewing random poems, to select the type of poem you'd like to view. does that do it for you? (of course that doesn't help when someone calls a limerick a haiku...)
and, if they were to be categorized by genre, what would the genres be?

I suggest childranker (a title more appropriate, of course, to avoid the authorities). Everybody posts pictures of their kids and people rank them in cuteness, likeliness to succeed, etc.

Short stories are a must I think. Either create a story ranker or add stories as a catagory to this site. Maybe a censored version of this site wouldn't be a bad idea either. Make sure your doing something you want to do though.

er, I need a new gimmick. any thoughts on another "ranker" site you'd like to see? I'm going to do one for fractals, but I need to learn a bit more about them. What else do people create? I don't have the bandwidth to do an mp3 site, as cool as that could be (especially with mp3.com dropping its free stuff). :/
and I'd prefer not to compete with gnod.net and its collection of sites. but.
