Teenage Graffiti (Lyric) by JanieDoe
Staring stonily, slouching in a worn out plastic chair
I hear prejudice jeering, mockery giggling, a droning teacher.
Various cliches loudly whispering among themselves
Apathetic to the Sex-Ed feature.
The geeks tapping at their calculator
The freaks silently wording a Manson song
The jocks comparing biceps
The newbies attempting to belong.
I glance at my wristwatch and glance again to verify
But still twentyfive minutes of class.
I sigh and put my head down
Wishing for the torturous time to pass.
Closing my ears from the competitive voices
I stare down at my desk.
Watching my breath condense on the cheap veneer
Causing students' graffiti to seem still more grotesque:
Random markings in pen and pencil and whiteout
Coupled with Exacto knife carvings
Displays the work of a teenage generation
Hungry for life, but slowly starving.
A deafening bell cuts off the lecture
Ignorant of the unblinking overhead
Hastily being pushed away.
Students left, with words still unsaid.
