Charades (Free verse) by Thom
Charades
~
isnât it nice to pretend
but who is fooling whom
have to say I wonder if it will end
frankly though old words are filled with gloom
~
sort of wears thin after a while
too much like work
and almost like dealing with a child
I was never quite aware of that silly quirk
~
in the end itâs all the same
things are as they will be
the charade such a silly game
believe it or not it does sit well with me
~
I know Iâm slow to catch on
but not all that dumb
after all my name is Thom
I guess I come off that way to one
~
things will pass itâs moving along
much the way I knew it would
although I still recall the days of song
and I would certainly speed this up if I could
~
pawns are the first to fall theyâre easy to deceive
the queen is the one to watch
but all this is not so make-believe
itâs just like getting a kick in the crotch
