Amputee (Free verse) by INTRANSIT
My two best friends
met some ladies.
I was happy for them.
A few years later
I noticed
my index and second finger
were missing.
A warehouse co-worker and I
had gotten close
during our work history.
Then his mother died
and left him an inheritance.
Suddenly,
my thumb was gone.
I got to know a gal,
smart, funny, a loving
people person.
She shot herself.
I have found myself
staying at home more.
I keep my hands in my pockets.
That way you can't tell
which one is missing.
But then,
Who really gives a rats' ass.
