End (Free verse) by MacFrantic
Temple square And I am midnight to these people A dancing slip of wind Here the slaughtered boy The one with the chest wound And scratches across his face Asked if I would pray for death I told him I would do my part In saving him from despair But I never got the chance He was swept away by men in masks Who were carrying bags That sounded of metal when they ran And I stood there and watched him Taken away by the very darkness that surrounded me I did not step I did not look His screams died away and I left They found his body on Sunday In the dumpster by the public pool
