The Incubation (Free verse) by oneglove
I know the sky’s not falling But I’m positive the roof is caving in The walls have gotten tighter Only Pandora's box remains There is no refuge There is no place to hide and bury my mind and pretend everything’s ok No blanket, no matter what the size, can cover these indiscretions Believe me I’ve tried. I’ve curled up tight Remembering nine long months, warm and fed Nine long months, only inches from the world we live Where things are good versus evil But apathy always wins It doesn’t matter how small the ball, I still lie exposed And no matter where my mind I still absorb the blows Ignorance brings only a slow and rhythmic death You can shelter me Let me nurture and grow Rejoicing in every kick, in every lesson learned And I, I will rely on You You’ll provide for every need;for any food, shelter or love I may need Keeping me inches from the world we live But I don't accept And I don't know why
