Hoodwinked (Free verse) by Dovina
I’d been humbled before by his sweet-sounding song, but he said he was sorry, this time he’d be true. So, only with caution I lent him a chair, thinking maybe this round he’ll change and be fair. We started our talk with his deep piercing questions, my careful defensives and logical answers. As evening wore on and my guest seemed to soften, I let down my guard, felt cozy and warm, Rested at sunset of umber, amber and gold. Then without warning, he laughed a strong laugh. “Hogwash,” he said, “You’re the dimmest of dim.” For the fifth in five times I’d been hoodwinked again.
