Misplaced Life (Free verse) by Richard
You, a new flavor expanding Across my dying taste buds A sickness or virus with no cure Wounded, without prejudice A dirty welcome mat. The cause for insecurity Rusted bars of pitted iron A busted headlight and cracked windshield Twisted mirrors of an aborted life. Cursed future's contracting Extra small hangman's noose Around a broken ankle Dangling upside down. Bailing is to no avail A turbulent afterlife awaits Peace is for strangers- My home a graveyard in flames.

Up the ladder: Dreams (senyru)
Down the ladder: Oh this little mouse, love

"You, a new flavor expanding
Across my windshield."

Richard, for this kind of [sadly very common] subject matter it needs to really stand out to, well, stand out.

Some good imagery here, but not truly striking.

Some verbs would have been nice.

"Dear Prudie,
I am self-employed and work at home. To my shame, and occasional self-loathing, I check out free pornography sites from time to time. (I have never gone further and actually paid to see more.) The other day I came across a porn scene featuring a female actress who, I swear, looks just like one of my cousins. Because the film clip is so brief, I can't be sure this person is my cousin. I'm not sure what my obligations are in this case. This cousin has been through some rough times recently (divorce, custody battle), and I would hate to think she felt she had to resort to porn to make ends meet. Our family has the resources to help her out. To verify her identity, or disprove it (I hope), I would have to pay $5 for a temporary membership. I've never wanted to do this for all kinds of reasons. The most practical of the problems: The charge would pop up on my credit card statement, which, in turn, would be spotted by my wife. What should I do? (And I also worry that I have a minor addiction to porn.)

11/17/3 "Thank you for your site though it has come too late for me. Before I was saved I was taught at school and in the Army Cadets that masturbation was a perfectly natural thing to do and that in fact, if you did not masturbate then there was something wrong with you. I became addicted to sex and when I was saved, the power of this sin was broken. Two years later I relapsed when the Lord withdrew the presence of His Holy Spirit from me. My appetite for sex and masturbation became monstrous and unparalleled to anyone's sexual appetite. One day, after many years of tribulation and truly sick of it all I cried out to God and He immediately broke its power over my life. Since then the Lord has helped me to master myself and my sins and I have met a wonderful German woman who has now become my fiancée. We are due to get married in August of next year. It seems that you are right though! The only way to break the back of such a sin whilst one is a seeker is to truly turn to God in repentance and ask Him for Salvation. My problems were aggravated because I have suffered from severe depression for most of my life and most of my impulses were too strong to be resisted and would not work regardless of the many struggles of faith that I had. For God to answer me He knew that He would have to deliver a mighty blow to my depression - which He did. I am still recovering! May the Lord bless you all and may we see each other in Glory!"

There's more. "I have been masturbating for as long as I can remember. My neighbor introduced me to pornography and homosexual behavior at the age of ten. Some of the things I struggled with were: frequent masturbation, occasional pornography binges, buying magazines, watching the modeling channel, late night cable porn, internet porn, homosexual activity, bestiality, kissing, petting, etc."

I find the whole thing intriguing and amazingly circular. Q: Why is pornography-viewing an addiction, when, say, breathing or fun aren't considered addictions? A: Because we're plagued with guilt while doing it and because we're led by pornography into more deviant, repressed modes of self-expression. Q: So what's the solution? A: Subscribe to a moral code which makes you feel guilty about your furtive, ever-more-deviant attempts at gratification. Q: Wait, isn't that all just backwards, impossible, and ass-stupid? A: Trust in the mercy of a loving Jesus, my child. And so on...
