conscience (working title) (Free verse) by hipster flare
The phone screams And is silent. Somewhere someone wants to speak to me. The phone screams again. What might they want? Who might it be? Does someone know my darkest secrets? The phone screams again. Do they think I’ll answer? Do they know I’m here? If I don’t pick it up Will the knock at my door soon? The phone screams again. They must know something. They must know something. They must know something about me to call. But what? The phone screams again. A bill I’ve forgotten? A meeting I missed? Something more sinister, perhaps… The phone screams again. That even I don’t know about. Something done by me without me knowing. They must know something They must need something They must know I am here And they know where I’ve been And what I’ve done The phone screams again. I stand in front of it, reach towards it But my hand cowers closed I pause waiting for the next scream waiting waiting
