Nina Simone (part one) (Lyric) by zodiac
After Julliard they refused to let her play piano at Cappuccini’s or Dan-O’s unless she sang the blues. She was poor then, so she sang, that low moan like the end of sex, and more tender ‘cause the next bar she’d be screaming – couldn’t get the hang Uh dem blues, though – she’d let toccatas slip into songs about leaving, had the brass to turn a grieving old ballad into a minuet So sweet and soulful you’d swear it wasn’t white; and she’d grin over her piano, big and ugly as sin, say, This for the white man there... And sing? No, she wasn’t any trained singer (but then they all are, right?) And when she did “Pirate Jenny” You laughed a little, too, at her whispering “kill them now!” trying not to think how what she meant was you.

Nice. I'm consistently impressed by what writing I've seen of yours. In fact, yours are among the best I've seen here (or most anywhere online lol) so far. You ignored my email though :( heh anyway this is awesome. I'd tell you my favorite parts, but I'd be quoting most of this piece back to you.

"You ignored my email though" - I don't know what email you're talking about. Thanks for the praise. And be cool about -=Dark_Angel=-. He's one of the best writers here.

ah. i sent you one like a week ago or so to the address you had listed here asking if you'd be interested in an online writer's workshop. I think you'd be good there. Some talented writers and honest, detailed critique/feedback.
And ah. that was in response to one of the dark angel's "i hate you i hate you blah blah blah" cuz they didn't agree with a suggestion i made to someone else my first time here. kinda immature, no? But yeah i'll keep my comments to the poetry. heh.

Nance: Sure I'd be interested. Do I have to pay?

zodiac...nope, not at all. It's an MSN group/workshop, a private one which you have to apply to join. Recommendations help. You've definitely got mine lol. It does require a rather extensive submissions package to get in (to judge both talent and more importantly your ability to give and receive critique, which you seem fine with from what I've seen here.) Is the email address you have listed here valid? If so, I'll email you again shortly with the details. If not let me know where to send it.

Looks like you've watched "Point of No Return" a few too many times.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I was talking about the jazz singer Nina Simone.
