House of the Risen Son (Lyric) by livingcanvas
There is a house in New Orleans They call the Risen Son And it's been a refuge for many a lost man And now, I know, I'm one My mother was an addict She had been since her teens My father didn't stick around He ran from New Orleans My momma got into gamblin' To try and pay her dues Until it got her thrown in jail She only knew how to lose With one foot on the platform The other foot on the train I wanted mercy for everything But I wore that ball and chain I sought forgiveness for all my past For everything I'd done I found myself in complete misery At the house of the Risen Son I met a man in ragged clothes He talked of his days on the run He was found, and judged, and served his time But now, all that was done Another man approached me that day He smiled and took my hand He read to me of slaves and trials And a place called the Promised Land We talked a while, and then he left Still yet, a third man came And this man seemed to care for me My burdens and my shame. He said they called him master They all sought salvation They called him Love, The Lamb, The Way He is the Risen Son There is a house in New Orleans They call the Risen Son And it's been a refuge for many a lost man And now, I know, I'm one

Wow! your work is good. Please read my Hope poem and leave a comment. I liked this a lot. I never seem to find your name when I check the random poems though, then again I never see mine even when I'm not logged in yet.

Yes I am. And I had to change some typo's I had noticed. Boy, it seems that noone really likes this poem though. Oh well... If you don't like it, that's your opinion. I am not really all that worried about it, this is not one of my most prized compositions.

I don't just rank all your stuff low. (Nice English) I read your submission and give my opinion and/or vote. I wish you would critique my work. By the way, I'm no lady.

damn, i reread what i wrote, and it was pretty ignorant... i seem to have a really bad habit of writing out of spite in a moments notice... and then once i actually look at what i said, i realize how petty it was.... (kind of like how i always feel when i look at that stupid poem 'why') anywho... thank you for your insight, and maybe i will critique some more of your work... hmm... not a lady? alright, my mistake....

it is often hard to judge works with a religious base, simply due to the fact that i know not your own faith, or lack of... however, as a work, this is very intriguing... i do not often enjoy poems that rip off songs, but this one catches my eye... it is your own, but i still prefer the original...

yes - I predict this will be a big hit, so big in fact, that it will be copied with slight modifications by the Doors, the Animals, and Bob Dylan.

And don't forget Nina Simone. She recorded it before The Animals.
