The Hermit (Other) by sykes
The Hermit
Once upon a time there dwelt
A man who lived inside a shell
In a dark and shady cave he knelt
He sits detached in his secluded hell
He had a heart of ice and eyes of fire
But itâs flames as cold as his heartâs desire
And with all the grace of decaying flowers
Dejected he recalls that dreary hour
When at first he felt all hope was gone
And now this Hermit sits alone
With vagrant thoughts he ponders death
And wonders what of life is left
His dark eyes grow colder with each new breath
No fear of dying but of what is next
His mind paints pictures of the good he knows
From starry nights to green meadows
From mountains high to valleys low
Despite the beauty his anger grows
Heavenâs eyes were once well-known
But now this Hermit sits alone
But the silence is broken by mindless chatter
With the uproar of voices his thoughts are scattered
And he pretends to be someone that matters
With a voice thatâs soft and a smile that flatters
You can find this man out on the streets
You can watch him laugh and hear him speak
You can even marvel upon his feats
This man that few have known but many meet
Though name and face be well-renown
Still this Hermit sits alone
âTis a mystery which none explore
How he begs for people to inquire more
How can they care if they donât implore
So he waits for a knocking upon his door
But no one knows this man exists
Not thought of as dead but as never lived
Never before seen for what he is
Heâs so tired of hiding but he just canât quit
Though several months have passed none have gone
So still this Hermit sits alone
If one cares enough to seek out his home
Please come join this Hermit so he won't be alone
