Lament (Free verse) by Blue Magpie
My skin burns with the fire of your contempt
and the ashes of my patient suffering
are dispersed with my expiring breath,
leaving me naked before your eyes.
I freeze in night and bake during the day,
my flesh is carried away on my tears.
Can not you see my pain?
Have you no care?
How can I love you my child,
my beautiful creation,
when your heart is as cold as the depths of space
and I am alone with no other.
Go back I say,
you seeker at the doors of hell.
Return once more
to the time before your birth,
to truth and the wisdom from
before the dreaming ego fell asleep.
My lungs are dying
the air is full of a sickness I can not heal.
You have carved my body,
lacerated the whole of my flesh,
so that my cells decay and I cannot breathe.
Do you experience nothing,
do you feel no remorse?
You cast your sickness into the wounds of my flesh
until it becomes bitter and unwholesome,
then you curse me that I am no longer beautiful.
You poison my blood with your wastefulness
and fritter away the days of my life while
you hunger for the night, for the dreams
that fill the emptiness within your soul;
and you know not the light that gave you birth.
Go back. I say.
you sower in the fields of hell.
Return before it is too late
to the time before you were,
to the insight and perception
that came, that was,
before the dreaming of yourself.
You think that you alone are whole
and do not care to know the other parts.
You have shut your eyes with fantasies
and closed up your ears with candied lies.
You are confused, overcome by the minutiae.
Mistaking ignorance for understanding
you fall prey to unnatural fears;
fearing me you push me away.
How can I love you my child,
the dawning of my light,
when your mind is as dark as the depths of space
and I am alone with no other.
Go back. I say.
Go back you stumbler through the caves of hell.
Return now, before you die
to the cleansing light of the green-soft trees,
and the sweet eye-kiss of a flower,
to the cool, blue sky with the wild white clouds;
to the chattered tumblings of a mountain stream
and the love-bright songs of bugs and birds.
Run now to the love of the earth
and the world of love
that was made for you
before you were ever born.
Go now! Now before you are no more.
