Summer Thunder (Free verse) by Wayne
Lightning caught among thunderheads The residue frightening some trapped close on the ground Crossing miles in microseconds Sparks and thunder simply discharge earth and sky White paths fast and aerial Add meaning to simple survival Watchers pause catching light and sound Living fast between relief and envy Still present after but working droll Wondering at the joys and terrors Moving in storm cells in summer Those left alive Are also left behind

Up the ladder: forgetfulness
Down the ladder: Becoming Indifferent
