the rhyming one (Free verse) by nugit15
Stale smoke: my only friend drifts from my cig, then back again Curls from my mouth and open lips blue eyes capture burning tip The silent sigh of a lonely day Guitar in my lap but no songs to play I stub out the butt while wiping my eyes reopen the door to the life I despise No good friends I can call my own Just a distant voice on a plastic phone Stumble through work--I've got bills to pay Wondering when I'll find some other way I lay on my bed and stare up at the black My ceiling holds secrets concealed in the cracks The smoke still swirls and I watch it drift by Closing my eyes, again I just sigh.

Up the ladder: Transfixed (#2)
Down the ladder: Nostalgia of Safe Days

Although I'm not a big fan of rhyme like this, I liked some of the imagery, in particular "My ceiling holds secrets concealed..."
