#16 (Haiku) by mikejedw
Would today's new chill, its drizzle and graying light, be here if I weren't?

Hmm, the old if a tree falls in a forest does it make a noise conumdrum. The answer in this case is yes. This is an ironic deconstruction of the solipsism caused by the atomisation of society as a result of neo-liberal free market economics. Or possibly just a beautiful peace of whimsy.

you really have to end a comment like this with something absurd or the idiocy of it seems almost serious.

The point is, it's pretty selfish to assume the world wouldn't exist without you. I took the poem to be an ironic assertion of this fact. I also think it is pretty whimsical, somehow, which I think is often a good thing in poetry.

An interesting image. A contemporary drowsy take on an age old question. The pessimistic wording is what intrigues me the most, as the question is rather cliche.
