TO MY SON on his 25th birthday (Free verse) by outdoorzylady
TO MY SON ON HIS 25th BIRTHDAY Sometimes I sit here and think about what it would be like if we could be together without the past within our minds; no baggage, not even the relationship “Mother and son” to bind. Sometimes I sit here and imagine what it would be like to walk and talk together, and just be friends, getting to know each other, having fun, enjoying each other’s company, from old past ghosts set free. I think we can know this kind of friendship, I think we can if we try. Please know this my son, don't forget it; despite failures or wrongs I have done, I respect and admire and cherish you so! I see God's beauty in your gentle eyes. And I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you with all my heart I do!

I like the straightforward, no nonsense, presentation. While some may complain of poetic negligence, sincerity is there. For that I’d give a 10. But since the poetry, for what little poetic excellence is really worth, is worth only a 5 in my opinion, have an 8. And enjoy your son.
