Monsters (Lyric) by wilco
Cigarettes hang like fireflies in the dark where monsters lie in wait for conscious decision to fall beneath neon lights. Why are things so strange when I go downtown for a drink? And why do they always say that drugs are the only reprieve from the pain? To all my friends, I’d like to say I love you. All of this constant revision of freedom and all that it brings is cruel as the boys in the schoolyard who separate flies from their wings. Nothing constricts like the struggle of tryin’ to live like we do; day to day, paycheck to paycheck and always with nothing to lose. Why are things so strange when I go downtown for a drink? And why do they always say that drugs are the only relief from the pain? To all my friends, I’d like to say I love you. The call of the monsters is stronger than any woman’s perfume; And baptism’s only for sinners that live the way we do. Why does it seem so strange when I go downtown in the morning? And why do they always say that drugs are the only release from the pain? To all my friends, I’d like to say I miss you every day but I can’t change.

Not your best, but very good work.

Like Jim Morrison and John Lennon dueling. A little disassembled between stanzas but put in the voice of an effective singer it could work quite well.

Wow, comparing me to Jim Morrison and John Lennon at the same time. I'm flattered, but I don't really think so...well, maybe Morrison...he was horribly overrated.

Actually, the chorus and verses were written at different times. That's why it seems a bit off kilter.

It's the middle stanzas that kinda remind me of Instant Karma (alot of it is just in the rhythm) and the Chorus makes me think Morrison. I really don't consider you overrated let alone horribly overrated.

Well, you have to be rated before you can be overrated.

I like this a lot, but think "monsters" is too strong a word to describe them. They're not that bad - just trying to get by.

Who's just trying to get by? I don't think you're getting it, but I'm glad you like it.

For ages your music player on myspace didn't work - it finally did yesterday :-D It sounds awesome! I don't suppose you're likely to play over here, are you?

I'm sure we will if we can get ourselves signed. If not, there's probably not much hope of it. Spread the word so we can make it happen.
