Sea Words (Free verse) by ecargo
Rolling smooth as tumbled stones-- pellucid quartz; flat, skimmer ovals of polished granite, gneiss; shifting storm berm, these words turn sweet and round in my mouth like small fruit, sea grape, sea plum. The small, naming magic draws eelgrass and blue mussel, slipper shell, marsh elder, hiss and hush words, the long, slow wash of syllables, plosives, sibilants rising like the siren islands: Shea and Chimon, Sheffield, birdcalling Cockenoe, that daymoon island, curving round bird names like bells, like ring gulls chiming.

Great description. Could be the opening of an epic novel or the spoken intro to a wide-screen classic. But as a poem, I look for metaphor and meaning; maybe I missed it.

Sweet and round. Sweet and round. This poem actually called up the ocean-front for me. I can hear the gulls squawking.

Yep, this did it for me.

Aye, for me too, forsooth.

Your sea poems are terrific! Where do you live, I wonder?

Love the play of words in the title too. Although it's taken me over a day to recognise it. *taps skull*
