The Best Thing I Ever Had (Lyric) by faithmairee
When I get to Louisiana, just a mile or more to go. Yes, when I get to Louisiana, just a mile or more to go, Lord, you know i'll be alright once I hit that station floor. They say he's in New Orleans doing his best to survive. They say he's in New Orleans doing his best to survive. I'll be in New Orleans just as it's turning five, That man was the best thing- yes, best thing I ever had. That man was the best thing- yes best thing I ever had. Lord knows when I see him it will make my heart feel glad. When we're pulling in the station, Lord I'll be headed for that door. Yes, when we're pulling in the station I'll be headed for that door. You know I just can't wait until I hit that station floor. That man was the best thing- yes, best thing I ever had. That man was the best thing- yes best thing I ever had. Lord knows when I see him it will make my heart feel glad.

I've read the stuff you've posted so far, and although it's pretty simple I really like it. Somehow you manage to make the repetition work in print without music, so for that I must offer my congratulations! It's really hard to get lyrics to appear as effective without music (by their very nature, I suppose). Very bluesy...definitely a good thing! Do you sing/play instruments professionally?

I'm listening to Beth Orton at the moment =D

While I have performed in public, I am a writer and a poet. Thank you for your wonderful remarks. They are deeply appreciated.

That's a real lyric, not pretend poetry posing as one. It also feels very tangible; I think I would enjoy listening to this in my car, driving home at dusk.

I have a tender spot for Louisiana and this poem means all the more since Katrina. Enjoyed the southern, sultry feel..
