I Never Thought (Free verse) by TLRufener
I thought that I could make That I could change the world I wanted to be the first one To hold their flag unfurled I never thought I would see the end I never thought I would crash burn I always thought I could prove them wrong I never thought that I would lose my turn All I wanted was a chance to prove myself To show them all that I could do I wanted to change their opinion of me I wanted them all to see the truth I opened up my heart and soul And showed it to the bitter world They shot me down right where I stood Leaving my hopes and dreams curled I never thought they could be so cruel I never thought that my dream was wrong I always thought I was doing the right thing I never thought it would hurt so long Shouts and screams and laughter were had I never knew all the things they could say My heart has never hurt so much before My tears are falling because the words stay I am so sick of everyone judging me Trying to think that they can figure me out Laughing at me saying I am a big joke They never hear my inner cries and shouts I never thought my life would end like this I never thought I would run away and hide I always thought that I was the stronger one I never thought I could keep this all locked inside

Up the ladder: Head Exploding Mark 2
Down the ladder: Overwhelming Vulnerability

Holding unfurled fags huh? Must be a San Fransisco thing. People will judge you here. Hence the site's name. For starters don't write a poem with 19 out of 32 lines that begin with the word I. I do sympathize with your feelings in the poem though.
