Mandrakes (Free verse) by Caducus
Mandrakes flower on the surface.
Concealing a poisonous root.
All body shaped and soiled
It induces feelings of love
Which if tasted too much of
Will make you sleep forever.
I had a lover like this
She left herself
So I left her snapped
Poisoning the insects
Who licked her bitter sap
Boasting about their kill
As I buried the remnants
Of her self respect
In an unmarked grave in neon land.
