A Wider Sky (Free verse) by elderking
Defeated by your expectations, I'd treasured once, but now abandon. I turn my back on hearts held earthbound; I'll chase instead some wider skys. Though you believed I'd never leave you, (ever the Victim you're pleased to rescue) I shook my wings free of the self doubt to spring in flight, despite your cries. grinning wide, I soared above you, (threw you a kiss for once I'd loved you) then set my course for far horizons. My kiss clutched tightly, you watched me fly.

Up the ladder: Ode to a Friend
Down the ladder: honey bee
