a conversation (Free verse) by crooked_smile
I am sorry for my selfishness,
dear Plato, & Shakespeare,
and you too, Descartes.
I realize that this is a
rather odd time of night
to be reading your great words
of literature.
But i confess, I have a somewhat
unsatiable desire to absorb
as many versions of the truth as there are out there,
before I decide which version, I can put my faith in.
If you really do want to go back to sleep Plato,
I understand.
But if you could bear it,
please stick around for just a few hours longer,
while I read my way through your dialogues.
Do you ever get tired, dear Shakespeare,
of being awoken in
the middle of the night
to recite some
love sonnet
or a speech about Julius Caesar?
Do you ever wish to end your immortality here on earth,
so we ignorant beings
would stop calling you down from the heavens?
And you, my friend Descartes,
I appreciate you leaving the certain & distinct
presence of God,
tiptoeing around sleeping demons,
just so you can give me the truth.
It's ironic though, that
the words that fly of your page tell me
that even you Descartes, could be from a Demon.
Oh, I see you are getting tired gentlemen,
please let my keep you up no longer,
go on get your rest
(and try not to wake up Darwin or Socrates this time.)
Descartes if you could tell Hume,
that I'm sorry about what I said about empiricism the other day,
because I really do think he is a genius, even
if I don't always agree with him.
Plato, if you could just say hi to Aristotle for me,
it's been a while, and I don't want him to think I've forgotten him
or his Organon.
(And Shakespeare, no pressure, or anything,
but if you could look over
this play that I've written for English class,
you know, maybe give me a pointer
or too,
I really would appreciate it.)
