It Still Hurts (Free verse) by poetryman
the worst pain I ever felt wasn't being abandoned by my mother or the war in vietnam that claimed my only brother it wasn't the abuse from an alcoholic dad nor the step mother from hell whom every man had it wasn't the shattered knee that ended my athletic dreams nor the old and tattered clothes bursting at the seams the worst pain I ever felt was the day that you died the first I can remember that I really, really cried Bob Shank-2004 Dedicated to Aunt Florence, the love of my life. A woman who had been crippled from polio as a child and yet raised me til I was seven. Even after that, she was always there, nuturing and loving. A woman who never uttered a complaint. Humility was her forte. You may rest in peace, but you'll always rest within my heart......Bobby

Poetically not brilliant but it made me feel for you.

For general readers, the last paragraph is not needed. The value of this poem is how it relates us to our own similar feelings.

I thought the last paragraph was needed, made me realise its truth and how personal it is to poetryman.

For a disinterested, but not uninterested, reader like me, it is not needed.

That last paragraph was needed as it helped me void my lunch over my desk - up to that poit I thought I might hold it in.

Top Work Bobby!
